Horror Films To Watch This Summerween

So far, the summer of 2025 has been a great season for horror fans and film enthusiasts alike. Summerween has seen a range of new film releases to dig your claws into, so I've rounded up a few suggestions of new releases to keep you entertained as we approach spooky season.

I Know What You Did Last Summer

A remake of a classic slasher, I Know What You Did Last Summer has just released in cinemas. Its a modern remake of the 1997 original, where a group of teens get stalked by a hook-handed killer after a car accident the year prior. I’m really looking forward to seeing this one, so let me know if you want a review in the future!

28 Years Later

28 Years Later is also out now in cinemas, which is a follow up to the original 28 Years/Days Later film series. I know there are mixed feelings about the franchise so I’d love to know your thoughts on this film in the comments!

Weapons

Weapons releases on the 8th of August. It’s an upcoming American horror-thriller about children from the same class going missing on the same night; all except for one. Apparently real scenarios inspired the story for this film, so I have a feeling it’ll be a good one!

Bring Her Back

Bring Her Back comes out on the 1st of August. Honestly, even the advert is terrifying, so if you like a more intense horror film I think this will be the one for you. Bring Her Back centres around a dark, occult ritual performed by a foster mother on two orphaned step siblings.

Dead On The Vine

If you like something less intense but more psychological, I’d recommend the independent film ‘Dead On The Vine’, which I also recently reviewed in my last blog post. It was recently released on DVD in the US and Canada, with streaming to follow after summer. It will also be screened at various venues in the UK, including Easdale Island Arts Festival on the 1st August, Highland Cinema, Fort William on 27th and 28th September, and at Edge Hill Art Centre in Liverpool on October 16th.
